Marine Terminal Worker Dead After Toploader Backover  [Port Everglades, Florida – 20 January 2020]

While information coming to Blueoceana Company has confirmed that a marine terminal worker was struck and killed by a reversing toploader yesterday at Port Everglades, no press reports have yet become available and no one within the administration of that port has been available to answer questions this evening.

Conjecture and implication, however, would have us believe that the accident occurred at or near Terminal 19 (see arrow at map appearing below), and that the worker was in the employ of SOL Shipping Services (a non-union employer). We’re working to confirm those allegations and will provide updates/confirmations here as they become available.

There has been some worker-to-worker discussion of driver distraction owing to potential cell phone use, but that eventuality has not yet been confirmed. We await the results of ongoing investigations.
