With great regret, Blueoceana Company has received several reports this morning which would have us understand that Nicolás Enrique Carbonó López, a longshore worker in the employ of the Carbosan terminal, and Aung Myo Thet, a merchant seaman, both suffered fatal injuries in an accident while using the gangway of M/V SAZUKU at Santa Marta port, Colombia on Saturday night.
From translated press reports and other sources (see links below), we know that a heavy sea caused the bulk carrier’s gangway to become unshipped, and as it fell the gangway came down upon the two workers.
The seaman was killed instantly; the longshore worker succumbed to his injuries yesterday, while in hospital.
