{"id":7178,"date":"2025-01-17T13:34:51","date_gmt":"2025-01-17T18:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blueoceana.com\/?p=7178"},"modified":"2025-01-18T15:37:10","modified_gmt":"2025-01-18T20:37:10","slug":"longshoreman-fatally-injured-in-shipboard-accident-georgetown-guyana-16-january-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blueoceana.com\/?p=7178","title":{"rendered":"Longshoreman Fatally Injured in Shipboard Accident  [Georgetown, Guyana &#8211; 16 January 2025]"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Information received today by Blueoceana Company has us understand that, Mr. Dallas Sharples, a 63 year old dockworker, was killed at Georgetown port, Guyana yesterday while aboard <strong>M\/V GPO AQUILA<\/strong> (<em>See<\/em> photo below) during the discharge of intermodal containers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Media reports available to us allege that while working alongside colleagues Mr. Sharples was struck by a crane and propelled into one of the ship&#8217;s cargo hatches. It is unclear if the crane was part of ship&#8217;s gear or a shoreside mobile crane. We believe the crane was one of the latter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stevedore\/terminal operator has been identified as John Fernandes, Ltd, whose occupational safety performance over the last few years,
