With great regret, news reaching Blueoceana Company provides that a 62 year old worker at Kwai Tsing Container Terminal No. 6 was crushed to death under the wheels of one of the facility’s rubber tired gantry (RTG) cranes the evening of 03 May 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terminal No. 6 is operated by Hong Kong International Terminals (HIT) which is part of the Hutchison Ports group of companies, and has a large population of RTGs at that terminal. Our understanding, is that the concrete RTG pads (runways) at Terminal 6 were undergoing refurbishment, and that the accident took the life of a worker engaged in that work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notwithstanding, we also understand that the Hong Kong Labor Department suspended the work of both the construction contractor and the marine terminal operator’s RTG operations as an investigation was initiated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
