Information coming to Blueoceana Company would have us understand that a crane mechanic working for Bob Hall Crane (a leading supplier of cranes in the Southern California marketplace), under subcontract to the firm responsible for the maintenance & repair of the terminal operator’s (APM Terminals Pier 400, Los Angeles port) lifting appliances, was killed yesterday when a section of a mobile crane’s boom became displaced and fell on him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Such information leads us to believe that the mobile crane was being used\/planned to be used in constructing a platform on one of the terminal’s lifting appliances, and that with either the assembly\/disassembly of the mobile crane’s boom sections one such section became displaced as it was being carried\/supported by an industrial truck and ended up crushing the mechanic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We’re told that several marine terminal workers were nearby and observed the accident, immediately responding and lifting the boom section off of the mechanic. The victim, Mr. Edgar Ruiz, 37, was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We know that separate investigations are being conducted by the relevant parties and that Cal-OSHA has been on-site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
