A routine search of globally occurring news articles dealing expressly with marine cargo handling industry incidents, has revealed a fatal accident at the Port of Montevideo, Uruguay on 07 July 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that accident, Sr. Angel De Melo, a 51 year old longshoreman, suffered fatal injuries while aboard M\/V INDEPENDIENTE <\/strong>(See\u00a0<\/em>photo\u00a0below) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two media reports were found (See<\/em> links below), but neither offered specific facts relating to the accident itself. That said, there appears to be an implication that a fall from an unspecified height was experienced. The translations from the original Spanish are rough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that light, we’ve taken the time to make inquiries with the relevant labor union (SUPRA) and hope to hear from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
