Through a friend and colleague in UK, we understand that a fatal accident occurred yesterday (Wednesday) at Dublin port, IE.<\/p>\n

In that accident, we’re told that a crane operator at Marine Terminals Limited’s South Bank Quay facility believed he had picked up a single 20′ container without realizing that he had in fact picked up the entire deck stack of four. We assume it was a stack of MTs. The bottom container dropped while in mid-lift and struck a member of the ship’s crew engaged in questionable lashing activities, killing him instantly.<\/span><\/p>\n

We await further information in relation to the particulars of the crew member and the ship, but are able to provide access to some media reports below.<\/p>\n

UPDATE – 15 Nov 2018 [9:30 AM EST]:<\/strong> \u00a0 While the identity of the Pinoy merchant seaman killed in yesterday’s accident at Dublin is still unknown, we know now that the containership he was serving is M\/V FRANCOP<\/strong> (see photo below). The vessel arrived at Dublin on 12 November, ex Rotterdam.<\/p>\n
