In that accident, Cynthia Hudson, a longshore worker and member of ILA Local Union 1408, suffered severe crushing injuries when cutting steel bands on tiered bundles of packaged eucalyptus pulp (500-600 pounds each package). From what we understand, the top tiers of the four high bundles were not aligned with the bottom tiers (leaning outward), and when the banding was cut the top two tiers fell, pinning Ms. Hudson to the warehouse floor. Similar stows within the warehouse are depicted below.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blueoceana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_2028-e1461863221893.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1157\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1157\" src=\"https:\/\/blueoceana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_2028-e1461863221893.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2028\" width=\"2448\" height=\"3264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blueoceana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_2028-e1461863221893.jpg 2448w, https:\/\/blueoceana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_2028-e1461863221893-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blueoceana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_2028-e1461863221893-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2448px) 100vw, 2448px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Emergency responders attending to Ms. Hudson at the accident scene found her unresponsive and with no pulse. At hospital, however, attending physicians found a spark of life and were able to sustain that spark with the aid of modern medical means. Hoping against the odds, the Blueoceana Company has monitored Ms. Hudson&#8217;s condition over the past months. Some days gave us cause for hope, while other days revealed apparent setbacks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Today our hopes came to an end, as we learned that the machines keeping Ms. Hudson alive were disconnected.
