Two Lashers Killed When Personnel Platform Disengages From Container Crane [22 September 2026 – Tuas Port, Singapore]
Information coming to Blueoceana Company this afternoon relates that two dockworkers being hoisted on a purpose made personnel platform (See photo below) were killed in falls when the device somehow became disengaged from the STS container crane moving it at the PSA-operated Tuas port, Singapore.
Media accounts available to us indicate that the workers were ages 33 & 44, respectively.
The general practice at many ports worldwide provides that personnel platforms so hoisted will have a redundant [secondary] means of attachment to the container crane spreaders used to hoist them. We were under the impression that the practice at Tuas port provided the same type of redundant safeguard.
Notwithstanding, the after-the fact photograph of the personnel platform that was being utilized in yesterday’s accident (See also below) clearly shows corner post damage that is indicative of separation from the crane being used to move the platform.
