Dockworker Seriously Injured in Towed Hopper Run Over at Bulk Terminal [Porto do Itaqui (São Luís), Brazil
Blueoceana Company has come to understand that a dock worker, known to us only as “Joca“, was run over by a large wheeled hopper being towed by a front end loader last Monday (27 July 2026) at the Brazilian port of Itaqui. Media accounts (See exemplar below) reveal very little… apart from the seriousness of the accident, the emergency response, enactment of an investigation and the deep regrets of the port administration and the terminal operator.
Notwithstanding, colleagues of Blueoceana at another Brazilian port have shared with us the dockworker’s first name and some fundamental facts associated with the accident. They’ve also alerted us of the availability of a security camera video clip which memorializes what transpired (See also below).
Thus, it’s been related to us that “Joca” was a pedestrian worker walking down the dock at the Port of Itaqui’s Berth 102, ahead of a large mobile hopper being towed by a front end loader. The former was to be used in the discharge of a vessel that day. The tow, however; as the video clip shows, overtook the worker whose back was turned to the tow and who was ultimately run over by the wheeled hopper.
