Crushing Injuries During Vessel Discharge Are Fatal to 53 Year Old Docker [Djen Djen Port, Algeria – 26 March 2026]

While an unfortunate dearth of information about this accident exists, which is not uncommon for this part of the world, Blueoceana Company relies upon the accuracy of a series of Facebook postings each of which seem to mirror one another. They relate that on 26 March (last Thursday) at the Algerian port of Djen Djen a 53 year old dockworker engaged in the discharge of steel coils from an as-yet unnamed vessel received fatal crushing injuries when one or more of those coils fell on him.

Djen Djen is Algeria’s largest port and is situated on the country’s Eastern Mediterranean coast. It boasts several multi-use facilities and has a large ongoing relationship with the marine cargo handling interest DP World.
