Cement Terminal Dockworker Fatally Injured; Hit By Parted Mooring Line [Naga Port (Cebu), Philippines – 11 March 2026]
Information received yesterday, has us understand that Mr. Junrey Baricog, 43, sustained fatal head injuries when he was struck by a snapped mooring line during the bagged cement loading of M/V THERESA I (See photo below) at the Barangay Tinaan waterfront, City of Naga, Cebu Island. Philippines last Wednesday evening (11 March).
Local news media accounts (See also below) relate that ballasting operations during the vessel’s loading were poorly carried out, causing the ship to list and then capsize. As a consequence of that capsize, mooring lines keeping the ship at dock violently parted. One of those lines struck Mr. Baricog while apparently on a break, seated on an adjacent bench; next to a fellow worker.
