A marine terminal worker was killed on dock when a dump truck being moved tipped over and fell on him at one of the port’s marine terminals on 14 December 2025. Identified as Ivan Mendes and known to his colleagues as “Rato” (Rat), died that Sunday night after a serious accident at the Port of Vila do Conde, in the Barcarena section the city. According to preliminary information, the victim was working in the port area when a dump truck overturned, hitting the worker.

The impact was fatal, and Ivan did not survive his injuries and died at the scene. Port health teams were called immediately after the accident. Ivan Mendes was known among the dockworkers for his experience and length of service, and his death caused great commotion among friends and colleagues. Forensic experts were called to carry out the legal procedures and release the scene. The case will remain under investigation.
