Longshoreman Working as Cruise Terminal Baggage Handler Dies During Vessel Operations [Piraeus, Greece – 01 September 2025]

Information reaching Blueoceana Company has us understand that Mr. Pantelis Georgiou, a 62 year old docker employed as a baggage handler by a stevedoring firm at that port, succumbed to presently-unknown causes while engaged in cruise ship loading operations yesterday at Piraeus Cruise Terminal outside of the Greek capitol of Athens.

We do know that ambient air temperature levels got into the low 90 degree fahrenheit range (32 Celsius) on 01 September; with humidity being recorded in the lower 50 percent range. We do not know for certain if the weather played any role in Mr. Georgiou’s death nor the state of his health, but do understand that responders rendered cardio-pulmonary assistance immediately before transporting him to hospital where he was declared dead.
