Information reaching Blueoceana Company has us understand that Sr. Vincenzo Giova, 52, a port worker and father of four, was killed in an accident aboard the Grimaldi Group’s M/V EUROCARGO RAVENNA (See photo below) during loading/unloading operations while the vessel was at the port of Catania, Sicily, Italy on 04 March 2025.
Two news iterations that speak to the accident were immediately available (See links to media accounts below). One indicates that Sr. Giova was “…. crushed by a container…”; while another sets out the identity of a “… 60 year old Catania maneuverer…” who is listed as a suspect in the requisite prosecutor’s investigation. We must assume that this suspect was operating a tractor positioning a container within the vessel’s Ro-Ro decks when the crushing accident occurred.
Vessel tracking sources indicate that M/V EUROCARGO RAVENNA continues to be held by the authorities at Cantania port (five days after the accident occurred), while the prosecutor’s investigation continues.
