Cuban Expat Docker Fatally Injured at Conclusion of Workshift [Montevideo, Uruguay – 08 February 2025]

Factually conflicting reports (See media accounts below) have reached Blueoceana Company which set out details of the death of Sr. Yasmani Echeverría Ramírez, a 37 year old Cuban national working as a longshoreman at the port of Montevideo, Uruguay on the morning of February 8, 2025.

After finishing work at or near 4:00 AM, Sr. Echeverría Ramírez and several colleagues were exiting the terminal when, outside of warehouse 20, they chose to leave a designated walkway and instead pursued a shortcut to the facility’s parking lot. Using that shortcut, there was a need to pass under a perimeter fence the top railing of which was formed by a length of railroad track rail. That top rail became displaced, fell on Sr. Echeverría Ramírez and fatally injured him.

We note that some of the media reports provided below make indications that the victim fell on the rail instead of the opposite. Third party communications with individuals at Montevideo port confirm that the heavy rail’s falling weight was decisive.
