Longshoreman’s Workplace Death Being Investigated as Manslaughter [Crotone, Italy – 10 November 2024]

Late arriving news coming to Blueoceana Company reveals that Fabio Correale, a 37 year old dockworker, died of currently unknown causes after concluding work within the hold of an unnamed ship that had been discharging wood chips at the small Calabrian port of Crotone on November 10, 2024.

Available media reports (See below) indicate that after finishing shipboard work, Sr. Correale was speaking with work colleagues, suddenly collapsed and subsequently died. Initial autopsy results indicate that his death was not due to natural causes, and that a manslaughter investigation has been opened by local prosecutors.

Organic materials, such as wood chips, are known to substantially deplete the oxygen content of enclosed cargo hold atmospheres, but that causal hypothesis is yet to be confirmed in this particular case.
