Longshore Worker Fatally Crushed Aboard Containership [Lagos, Nigeria – 25 December 2024]

Information received today at Blueoceana Company instructs us that an as-yet unnamed longshore worker lost his life while working aboard M/V MSC SAMU (See photo below) on Christmas Day.

Media reports stipulate that while in the employ of Five Star Logistics, Ltd, a marine terminal contractor operating Berths 9 & 10 at Lagos port’s Tin Can Island Terminal D, the worker received crushing injuries to his head inflicted by one of the operator’s mobile harbor cranes. While those reports (See links below) do not impart further details of the accident, we’ve initiated inquiries and hope to have additional information. If and when such details are forthcoming, we will update this post accordingly.
