One Dead, Two Injured as Steel Components of Crane Fall From Aloft [19 July 2024 – Damietta Port, Egypt]

Independent research has led Blueoceana Company to information which reveals the death of a marine terminal worker in his 30’s and the injury of two other workers, when steel components of a crane fell from aloft at the Port of Damietta, Egypt on July 19, 2024.

The two media reports that are available (See links below) are produced in a rough translation from the original Arabic, and tell us little more that we can make sense of. Within them, we cannot adduce what type of crane was involved in this accident. We do know, however, that Damietta port has no small population of ship to shore container gantry cranes, rubber tired gantry cranes, at least one mobile harbor crane and several mobile stick cranes.

We hope to obtain further information from waterfront sources at that port in the coming days. If and when that information is forthcoming, we will update this post accordingly.
