Three Longshoremen Asphyxiated in Cargo Hold [Santiago de Cuba – 21 February 2024]
With great regret, Blueoceana Company has come to understand that three longshoremen were fatally overcome by a toxic/oxygen deficient atmosphere within a cargo hold of an unnamed vessel discharging cargo at Santiago de Cuba port on 21 February 2024.
Media reports (See links below) indicate that the three longshore workers mistakenly entered a hold that contained a fumigated cargo of rice that was not earmarked for discharge at that port. The atmosphere within that hold proved to be fatal to each of them.
