Dockworker Dead in Drowning Accident [Jalan Khoo Peng Loong, Borneo (Malaysia) – 19 August 2023]

With great regret, Blueoceana Company has received information which chronicles the drowning death of Mr. Hii Kee Soon, 48, described in media accounts as a “Dockworker-Coolie” [non-pejorative] at the river port of Jalan Khoo Peng Loong, Borneo (Malaysia) on 19 August 2023.

From those media accounts (See links below), we’re made to understand that Mr. Soon was assisting in the loading of an “express boat” when he fell into the water. We have no information about how or why he fell, but do know that he was seen “struggling” in the water immediately after the fall. Rescue was apparently impossible, presumably owing to the river’s swift current. His body was found nearly 6 miles downriver, two days later.
