RTG Operator Suffers Fatal Heart Attack Climbing To His Crane’s Cab [Wilmington, Delaware – 11 March 2023]
Information coming to Blueoceana Company has us understand that Mr. Orlando Coleman, 57, a member of ILA Local Union 1694, died as a result of a heart attack suffered last Saturday morning (11 March) while on the cab access deck of a rubber tired gantry crane (RTG) after ascending the lifting appliance’s stairway.
While the Wilmington, Delaware terminal’s location is contiguous between Dole Fresh Fruit and Gulftainer, it is believed that the RTG at issue is that of Dole.
Fellow workers came to his aid and administered resuscitation methods, closely followed by rescue personnel from the City of Wilmington’s Fire Department. Those efforts were, sadly, of no avail.
