An online search initiated today has revealed the drowning death of a yard tractor (prime mover) operator at the Keppel Marine Terminal, Singapore during the early morning hours of 31 January 2023 (See photos above & below).
Based on our research, Blueoceana Company has reason to believe that a 44 year old as-yet unnamed [Malaysian national] marine terminal yard tractor operator was trailing a bomb cart with two twenty foot containers mounted. While making a turn near a berth’s edge, his rig was said to have “swerved” and the tractor was propelled over the string piece edge. Once over the edge, the trailing bomb cart became uncoupled and remained (with its two containers) on the apron, while the tractor and the operator went into the adjacent water. The tractor and the operator were retrieved later in the day by divers, from a depth of approximately 14 meters (46 feet).
The worker was employed by Handling System Company, a stevedore contractor to the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA)
