Late arriving information coming to Blueoceana Company from an independent news media source at Vancouver, BC (See link to the coverage provided by THE TYEE, below), has us understand that Dan Alder, a marine terminal crane mechanic at Deltaport (operated by Global Container Terminals), died as a result of a cardiac event experienced after several climbs up crane number 8 at that facility on 14 December 2022.
He was reported to be engaged in switching out one or more trolley wheels, and had been compelled to climb the crane’s switchback stairway owing to the out-of-service condition of the machine’s personnel elevator. THE TYEE‘s coverage would have us understand that the elevator’s serviceability had been an issue for some period of time preceding this event .
Owing to the absence of reasonably quick access to the victim, rescue attempts by responders proved to be extremely problematic. Mr. Alder died atop crane number 8.
