Longshore Worker Dead in Apparent 33 Foot Fall Into Vessel’s Hold [Bata, Equatorial Guinea – 07 October 2022]

News arriving to Blueoceana Company today reveals that Juan Esono Nnembeng, 27, a docker at the port of Bata [Equatorial Guinea], died in an apparent fall aboard M/V PORT GYDNIA (See photo below) in the early morning hours of 07 October 2022.

Our understanding, is that while loading the vessel heavy rains were encountered which motivated stevedoring management to cease operations and call all workers off the ship until the weather moderated.

In anticipation of recommencing work, the body of Mr. Esono Nnembeng was discovered in one of the vessel’s hatches…. the apparent victim of a fall of some 10 meters (approximately 33 feet).
