Three Longshore Workers Dead Aboard Bulk Carrier at Coal Loading Anchorage [Bunyu Port, Indonesia – 28 June 2022]

With great regret, Blueoceana Company notes the deaths of three stevedores (longshore workers) aboard the bulk carrier M/V BERGE MAWSON (Isle of Man-flagged) while in a loading anchorage at Bunyu port (Indonesia) last Tuesday (28 June).

Lacking any further information, we must conjecture for now that (given the cargo of coal being loaded) their deaths were associated with an atmospheric deficiency. We continue to search for more facts, however.

Given the flag State, we know that the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch will conduct a full investigation. In light of that eventuality, we expect that a complete disclosure will be forthcoming.
