Blueoceana Company has been apprized that a dockworker apparently drove over the edge of the stringpiece and into the harbor with his rig carrying a 30 ton load of bulk cargo at Pier 3A North (Multi-Purpose Terminal) in the Port of Callao, Peru in the still-dark hours of Wednesday morning (20 April 2022). He was unable to escape his cab and consequently drowned.

As depicted in the video clip provided below, Julio César Quiroz Ormeño, 74 and a longtime port worker; for reasons yet unknown, seemingly made no perceived attempt to brake his rig and was propelled into the water while at the wheel of his tractor. One media report relates that Mr. Quiroz Ormeño’s rig displaced cement blocks that had been arranged on the stringpiece to form a bull rail of sorts.

Other media reports quote co-workers as expressing long working hours and fatigue as an unconfirmed potential cause.
