Spanish Docker Fatally Injured as Container Falls [07 November 2021 – Barcelona, ES]

With the deepest of regret, Blueoceana Company has been made to understand that a Spanish longshore worker at the Port of Barcelona lost his life yesterday afternoon at the “Prat Pier – BEST Terminal” (See photo below). A simple internet search indicates that the BEST (Barcelona Europe South Terminal) is operated by Hutchison Port Holdings.

Our contact at Barcelona was not in a position to relate anything more than the worker had apparently been crushed by a container that had fallen on him. We understand that the accident occurred in an other-than-shipboard venue.

We appreciate the level of sorrow being experienced by his friends and colleagues, and extend our sincerest condolences to them. In the fullness of time, we hope to have further information. If/when that happens, we’ll update this post accordingly.
