Checker Fatally Crushed By Displaced Stack of Crates [04 October 2021 – Houston, Texas]
Preliminary information coming to Blueoceana Company this evening, alleges that a Houston, TX-based ILA clerk/checker (a member of ILA Local Union 1351) working at that port earlier today (04 October) was fatally injured at a facility currently or formerly operated by a firm known as Woodhouse (See photo below of the facility below).
We believe that Woodhouse was a corporation operating under the successorship of the Richardson group of companies but, pending confirmation, that eventuality is based only on conjecture.
It was related (but not confirmed) that he was struck by a piece of freight. Our expectation, is that we will learn a good deal more about the factual aspects of this accident tomorrow.
UPDATE (05 October): 2nd tier information coming to us, relates that the fatally injured checker (said to be Mr. David Ozuna) was attempting to locate identifying marks on crated stainless steel pipe (5-6″ diameter/35-40′ long; stacked 4 high). To do so, a forklift truck assisted in marginally shifting the crates to allow a better look. In that process, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th high crates tumbled, landing on Mr. Ozuna.
