Casual Checker Fatally Injured in Forklift Accident [Antwerp, Belgium – 08 September 2021]

Late arriving news coming to Blueoceana Company from a friend at Antwerp Port, Belgium, would have us understand that a clerk/checker was backed over and instantly killed by an industrial truck that was carrying two coils of a steel cargo on one of the terminal’s quays.

At present, the victim is known to us only as “Stevie H.” But we do know that she was 37 years old and had been working for the multi-national logistics/port operating firm, Katoen Natie, for most of the Summer.

Media outlets have questioned if “temporary workers” such as this young woman are adequately instructed about the occupational hazards encountered on the waterfront, while others have raised the issue of operating industrial trucks in the proximity of pedestrian workers when rear vision is potentially compromised.
