Marine Terminal Worker Fatally Injured in Industrial Truck Runover [Salerno, Italy – 26 May 2021]

Matteo Leone, a 34 year old docker working at the Port of Salerno, Italy, was seriously injured last night (25 May) when struck by a large industrial truck operating at Pier 10. Sadly, after being transported to a local hospital, he succumbed to those injuries very early this morning.

Mr. Leone, who had won a successful battle against leukemia just two years ago, is a second generation longshoreman (docker). His father, Emilio Leone, worked on the Salerno waterfront for many years.

Our records show that on 04 September 2012 the elder Leone was working in the port; hooking up a container to a lifting appliance, when he fell from an elevated height. Suffering significant head trauma and several fractured ribs, he spent several weeks in an intensive care setting.
