Marine Terminal Worker Fatally Crushed By Swinging Load [Hai Phong, Vietnam – 01 April 2021]

Blueoceana Company has learned that Ho Ngoc Binh, 50, a marine terminal worker at the Vietnamese port of Hai Phong, was caught in the bight (between a fixed object and a moving object) on the morning of 01 April 2021 in the Doan Xa section of the harbor.

From the rough translations of news articles made available to us, we can can conjecture that Mr. Ngoc Binh was chain-hooking corrugated sheets of steel stock (4 sheets to a set; each sheet weighing two tons). The lifts were being accomplished through the use of a reach stacker.

Apparently, during the reach stacker’s movement a hoisted draft of corrugated sheets swung out and caught Mr Ngoc Binh between that raised draft and a pile of corrugated sheets located behind him.
