Husband and Wife Fatally Crushed By Container While in Cab of Tractor [Laem Chabang, Thailand – 26 February 2021]

Reports coming to Blueoceana Company indicate that Supot Nilkaew, 51, and Kaysorn Phummarin, 46, a husband and wife over-the-road drayage team servicing Berth B-5 of the Laem Chabang container facility on the afternoon of 26 February 2021, were crushed to death by a fallen container while sitting next to one another in the cab of their tractor.

Given the very loose [and imperfect] translations of each available news article addressing this event, it’s difficult to understand precisely how or why this accident actually occurred. Nonetheless, we’ll continue to search for an accurate disposition.

From what we’ve read, however, we believe that a container being hauled by another tractor jackknifed, became airborne and ultimately landed on the roof of the couple’s cab (See photos below). The 40′ container, which was said to to have a gross weight of 20 tons, crushed the cab and the occupants inside. It took approximately an hour for first responders to free the bodies from the wreckage.
