With great regret, Blueoceana Company has been made aware of a merchant mariner’s fatal crushing accident aboard M/V SOLYMAR at the Danish port of Vejle Havn on 16 March 2021.
In this particular accident, the merchant mariner and another crew member were laying out deck dunnage upon which a hatch cover being held aloft was to be ultimately placed. For reasons yet unknown, the elevated hatch cover came away from the supporting lifting gear and fell. One worker was able to avoid being hit; the other was not as fortunate.
No matter what, working under a suspended load should never be attempted; nor permitted.

I am very interested in receiving the information they publish since I worked in a port terminal
M/V SOLYMAR is registered under the laws of the Republic of Cyprus. I suspect that Cyprus’ MAIC will investigate this accident and publish some sort of report. Here’s their website address: http://www.maic.gov.cy/mcw/dms/maic/maic.nsf/index_en/index_en?opendocument
