Longshoreman Experiences Fatal Injuries Aboard Ro-Ro Vessel [Montevideo, Uruguay – 07 July 2020]

A routine search of globally occurring news articles dealing expressly with marine cargo handling industry incidents, has revealed a fatal accident at the Port of Montevideo, Uruguay on 07 July 2020.

In that accident, Sr. Angel De Melo, a 51 year old longshoreman, suffered fatal injuries while aboard M/V INDEPENDIENTE (See photo below)

Two media reports were found (See links below), but neither offered specific facts relating to the accident itself. That said, there appears to be an implication that a fall from an unspecified height was experienced. The translations from the original Spanish are rough.

In that light, we’ve taken the time to make inquiries with the relevant labor union (SUPRA) and hope to hear from them.
