Longshore Worker Killed When Crane’s Cable Breaks [Turks & Caicos – 10 August 2020]

With great regret, we understand that an as yet unnamed longshore worker was killed on 10 August during cargo operations at the South Dock, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos.

The media report linked-to below indicates that a crane’s cable broke while lifting a container, causing the crane’s boom to drop and fall on the worker.

Our recollection, is that container services at Providenciales’ South Dock are very basic; with little in the way of sophisticated lifting appliances. The stevedoring firm (Provo Stevedoring) conducts operations using Manitowoc stick cranes.
