Maintenance Worker Fatally Crushed While Repairing Terminal Bus [Gioia Tauro, Italy – 19 August 2020]

With great regret, Blueoceana Company has been informed of the workplace death of a 35 year old mechanic (known only as DZ at present) at a large (transshipment) container terminal located at the port of Gioia Tauro (Calabria), Italy yesterday (19 August).

The worker was performing maintenance on a terminal bus used to convey longshore workers to various points throughout the facility, when he was crushed by/between another bus that was transiting his work area.

We’re made to understand that the terminal operator had contracted out certain terminal-related maintenance services, and that the deceased worker was an employee of one such contractor. Below, we provide a link to a roughly translated (from the original Italian) news article.
