M&R Tire Service Worker Fatally Injured In Struck-By Accident at Marine Terminal [Bilbao, Spain – 20 May 2020]

With great regret, Blueoceana Company has been informed of an industrial accident that has claimed the life of a 38 year old tire maintenance & repair worker in the employ of Vulcanizados Retuerto as he was engaged servicing an industrial truck at a marine terminal in Bilbao port Wednesday afternoon (20 May).

From what we can determine from the sole (and roughly translated) media report available (See link below), a 38 year old worker in the employ of an industrial truck tire repair/replacement contractor was killed when struck by a piece of equipment that “… fell on him.

Anecdotal reports coming from at least two workers at the subject marine terminal, however, indicate that there may have been an accompanying tire explosion as part of this accident. In the fullness of time, we hope to learn more.

UPDATE 22 May 2020 – 3:45 PM EST:

We are now made to understand, via a second (roughly translated) media report (See link below), that the worker was crushed (struck by) the industrial truck he was working on when the hydraulic jack supporting that piece of equipment failed.

UPDATE 23 May 2020 – 1:00 PM EST:

Newly available (and roughly translated) media reports (See links below), would now have us understand that the worker (now identified as Mr. Oskar M. Bernal) was killed by an exploding tire he was servicing. Previous accounts held that Mr. Bernal was crushed when a hydraulic jack supporting the industrial truck he was working on failed.

While piecing together disparate media reports into a reliable conclusion is always a great challenge, it is still reasonable to surmise that all of the media accounts that have been made available to us, once assembled, may be accurate in their own respective right.
