ILWU Lasher Falls To His Death From C/V HYUNDAI BUSAN [Oakland, California – 31 March 2020]

With great regret, Blueoceana Company has received a report that an ILWU lasher lost his life aboard a container ship at Oakland port earlier this morning (31 March). Further information should be received in the fullness of time.

UPDATE: We now know that the fatally injured lasher was ILWU Local 10 member Mr. Jarvis Haskin. Initial reports appear to suggest that Mr. Haskin was lashing on the inshore side of C/V HYUNDAI BUSAN (See photo below). He was described as hanging a three high rod when it fell. It allegedly caught in his clothing or hit him between his legs causing him to fall off the ship.

He landed on the dock before ending up in the water. Two other ILWU members jumped in to try and rescue him, but by then it was apparently too late.
