Port Worker Fatally Injured Aboard Geared Bulk Carrier, Struck By Chain Sling  [Colombo, Sri Lanka -18 November 2019]

Blueoceana Company has been made to understand that Mr. Gurulupotha Wadiye Gedara Priyantha Gunatunga, 47, a port worker of some 25 years, was fatally injured the morning of 18 November aboard M/V TAN BINH 246 (Ex M/V SILVRETTA) when it is alleged that he was struck in the head by a chain sling that had “broke[n] free”.

M/V TAN BINH 246 (See photo below) was docked at Colombo port’s East Terminal at the time of the accident.

The worker was taken to Colombo National Hospital, where he expired.
