Container Crane Hit By Bow Flare; Knocked Down! [Semarang Port, Indonesia -14 July 2019]

This afternoon, while coming to berth at the Indonesian port of Semerang, C/V SOUL OF LUCK struck a container gantry crane with the flare of her bow and brought it down……

We don’t know, as yet, whether there were any injuries to dockside staff. We do note, however, that there are several yard tractor/container rigs lined up under adjacent container cranes during the active docking process, which may be taking a little bit too much for granted. The attached video (see link below) provides an eyewitness-like perspective of this accident.

We also understand that C/V SOUL OF LUCK continued down the dock, striking general cargo ship M/V CERIA 8, which broke her mooring lines and shifted along her berthing area.

Updated news reaching us a moment ago, indicates that one employee on dock suffered minor injuries; was treated and released.
