Port Worker Killed In Dock Machinery Collapse [Belfast, Northern Ireland ~ 21 March 2017]

While initial media reports are conspicuously short on information, Blueoceana Company has been made to understand that Neil Rooney, a Belfast port worker, was killed earlier this morning when components of a bulk cargo hopper collapsed onto him at that city’s Stormont Wharf.

From colleagues working at Belfast, we have learned that the deceased dock worker is the father of two young children.

Our thoughts are with Neil’s life partner, Lyndsey, and their two children, Matthew & Cara.

We understand that the operators of the facility are known as Scruttons, and apart from being advised that the hopper was owned by the Belfast Harbour Commission we know little more.

As further information is made available, Blueoceana Company will update this bulletin accordingly.
